I’m very pleased to share that the physical works from Dum Spiro Spero have now become part of the Nederman Art Collection. The project brought together my documentary photography and Nederman’s focus on clean air, documenting the lives of people working in an environment where the air itself can be hazardous.
The story began at in Indonesia, where I first encountered the sulfur miners while working on a reportage for Esquire and other publications. One photograph, In the Sulphur Cloud, was later exhibited in The Breath, a collaboration between Nederman and Dunkers kulturhus. This led to a deeper collaboration with Nederman and curator Martin Schibli, and the development of Dum Spiro Spero — a photographic project, exhibition and book.
The works are currently on display at Nederman’s global headquarters in Helsingborg, Sweden, and will hopefully travel internationally in the future.
Dum Spiro Spero — while I breathe, I hope.
