“We are all on our way to some boarder”
I take one last look at Odessa’s station building, where the Ukrainian flags are blowing hard in the wind. The train is only half full, and I lie down on a bunk and feel the fatigue wash over me.
A young boy with broken English wakes me up and asks if I can help him fold up one of the seats. The boy and his mother will make the long journey from southern Ukraine to Germany. An elderly couple sits next to it. She Russian and he Ukrainian, now they will flee to relatives on the border with Romania.
Everyone on the train has different stories to tell, but they have one thing in common – that they are fleeing their homes.
We are all heading towards some boarder. Poland. Hungary. Moldova. Romania…
